After 20 hours of bus including very few hours of sleep, we arrived in Belgrade. Back to the Balkans! In Belgrade men are strong, women have dyed hair, and people eat meat 3 times per day. A bit dizzy after our short night of sleep, we wandered from park to

Marko was our host from Couchsurfing. We could not really understand what his job was, he first presented himself as a dentist, then told us he was working illegally during the summers in a restaurant in Mallorca (Spain), he continued to tell us he was working in a big company in Belgrade on import of medical protection gears, and finished by telling us that he was a carpenter. The guy was full of surprises, an ovni in the Serbian world, more focus in running ultra trail marathons and traveling than eating barbecue like a proper man (we even told us he succeeded to be vegetarian for 6 years! Incredible achievement for here). He told us many incredible stories, both proud of his country and making a lot of fun of it. He told us how ridiculous it was during covid, with thousands of belivers queuing for hours to have a sip of "holy wine" served in the same spoon by the priest while people were fined for being outside after 5pm (curfew time). The priest claimed that the blood of god can't possibly be impure and the silver would have killed any viruses. He told us couple of funny stories about the neighbour countries, like Kosovo that have developed an app to tell you easily if a product was partly produced in Serbia (if it was the case, you should boycott it). We discussed geopolitics also, I wanted to know how the war in Ukraine was seen here. The position of Serbia was not very clear about the situation. As they were during the cold war, they prefer to remain "unaligned". So they are not following the other European countries with the sanctions against Russia, being a bit "the bridge between Russia and Europe".

A last super-oily burek for breakfast, and it was time to say goodbye to Marko, jumping in the bus for our next destination.
